The Sussex Arms

Tucked away behind the Corn Exchange, the Sussex Arms is one of Tunbridge Wells’ best kept secrets – reached via Coach and Horses Passage to Sussex Mews.

The Sussex has a rich history, having first been used by 18th Century Coachmen who occupied the old stable block behind the former Sussex Hotel for which the pub – formerly ‘The Sussex Shades’ – takes its name.

In the last century the pub has had a varied and often eccentric history, perhaps most famously being run by the legendary pub landlord Dennis Lane, whose legendary size and character still live on in notoriety.

Today the pub is a popular late evening venue, opening at 5pm and going on until late at the evening, serving an extensive drinks list of real ale, fine wine and craft spirits.

The cellar bar, with a capacity of around 40, is available to hire for private parties and event promotion.
